Starting with what we know and move forwardContinuing after the UVIC Codemakers workshop, I didn't want to lose momentum. I wrote on the blackboard: WITH WHAT YOU NOW KNOW ABOUT PROGRAMMING A RACING GAME USING SCRATCH, DURING THE STEAM BLOCKS ON FRIDAY, YOU WILL CODE AN INSIGHT MARS LANDER MISSION GAME. I kept students in groups of two and allowed for the students to self select good pairings. They worked for two weeks. They were coding, testing, remixing, and then did some self reflection (although helpful I want to edit this process). When the day finally arose for them to present their games, they stayed in their groups and we invited our partner grade 6 class over to test the games. Every 5 mins, the visitors changed groups, played a game or two, gave a modified reflection based on "two stars, and a wish" model (two positive statements and one way the game could be better). At the end of the block students looked over the reflections left at their stations, packed up and went home. Take aways: the things that worked well
Take aways: things to work on
